- Maintain up-to-date lesson plans throughout the year.
- Teach Reading, Writing, Phonics, Math, Science, Social Studies and social skills to children in 1st grade.
- Deliver lessons daily incorporating Learning Targets, Essential Questions and Success Criteria.
- Conduct shared inquiry discussions with students using Junior Great Books materials.
- Maintain an assessment and grading system based on the AERO Standards and housed in Plus Portal.
- Complete and submit grades and comments on Progress Reports quarterly and on Report Cards at the end of each semester.
- Administer MAP (Measure of Academic Progress in Math, English and Science) Assessment three times over the course of the academic year.
- Analyze, apply and explain MAP assessment data to parents during Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Take an active leadership role in school-wide Curriculum Mapping.
- Order and maintain inventory of 1st grade materials, equipment and books.
- Maintain class discipline, follow-up, feedback and documentation.
- Make parental contacts.
- Take part in Parent Orientation event and two evening Parent-Teacher Conferences.
- Monitor and annotate student notebooks, folders, and portfolios.
- Develop and utilize rubrics in 1st grade.
- Contribute to the school’s Weekly Updates in Instruction.
- Contribute to and update the school’s Monthly Unit Plans.
- Take an active role in weekly professional development sessions.
- Attend training in Early Childhood Education, if available.
- Conduct Parent Workshop on Early Childhood Education outside of school hours.
- Lead and facilitate an After School Activity of one’s own interest.
- Take part in planning, leading, and participating in day field trips with other primary school teachers.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Director.
- U.S. or International Teaching License preferred.
- Background in Early Childhood Education required.
- Knowledge of AERO Standards.
- Familiarity with inquiry-based teaching and learning.
- Fluency in written and spoken English required.
- Facility in French language preferred.
- Child Protection clearance.
- Previous experience living in Sub-Saharan Africa preferred.
- Flexibility and a sense of humor a must.
